What is Blue Health Coaching?
Blue Health Coaching is an advanced professional coaching practice in partnership with blue spaces - the coast, and other bodies of water.
Blue, of course, meaning the colour, the element of water and our relationship to these things.
Health relates to every aspect of what it means to be well, psychologically, physiologically, socially, environmentally and spiritually.
Coaching refers to creating space for insight to emerge, through questioning and through silence.
Blue Health Coaching combines environmental psychology, applied neuroscience, philosophy, somatic practices and more to support and encourage a more nature-connected, intuitive and aligned approach to life.
It comes from the perspective that we ARE the environment we inhabit and therefore location is not just a backdrop to our conversations but a fundamental part of the coaching process.
“Water is life’s matter and matrix, mother and medium. There is no life without water”
- Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, M.D

Who’s it for?
Traditionally, the aim of coaching has been to support attainment of, and progression towards, tangible goals and aims, an A to B approach. But of course, life does not always take us on this linear path, and if you’re already in tune with nature your ‘goals’ are likely to be more nuanced, intangible and eco-centric.
Blue Health Coaching is for those who:
Want to rediscover their natural intuition and increase their nature-connectedness.
Seek deeper meaning in all their interactions.
Are curious to see what happens when they stop doing and start being.
Recognise that they are in a transition
Would like become more resourceful, motivated, empowered and resilient.
Want to make coherent and intuitive decisions
Want to feel alive again

What to expect
Water as a metaphor
During our sessions we’ll work in partnership with the coastal space, using it as a powerful metaphor to guide a deep exploration.
Nature-connectedness
I’ll help you tune into your internal environment and notice your external environment, and bring the two together so you are nature-connected. You’ll gain access to alignment, balance and flow informed by the natural world.
Awaken the senses
Our senses are the way we meet the world. During our sessions we go beyond the familiar senses and explore your sense of space, place, time and intent.
Emergence
A blue health coaching session traverses many different modalities, from neuroscience to philosophy to embodied approaches. As such the sessions are fluid and create space for things to emerge. You do not need to know where you want to go to benefit from this approach.
Curiosity and playfulness
We become part of the landscape, using it as a playground to learn, discover and experiment with concepts and ideas.
Questions
Expect to leave with more questions than you came with. This is a good thing - questions hold power.
More coaching & wellbeing support options
I have several options for 1:1 coaching and wellbeing support, plus a group coaching programme.
If you’re local to Bournemouth we can work together in person but if you’re further afield there are online options too.

FAQs

Hopefully it will be gloriously sunny all the time but given the British weather, it’s likely we’ll encounter a little bit of rain.
But that doesn’t have to put a damper on our session. If it’s drizzling, we’ll go ahead – being on the beach in the rain adds another element to our sensory experience – plus the beach will be quieter – bonus. If it’s raining, bring waterproof layers and a change of clothes.
If the rain is heavy or it’s particularly windy we might need to postpone but you’ll still get your session and I’ll let you know with as much notice as possible.
-
We all have lives to lead and sometimes unexpected things beyond our control come up, like illness. If you give 24 hour notice then we can rearrange your session.
-
If you can, travel light. Depending on the weather I may bring a small tent to keep our stuff hidden away but I’ll also carry a bag for our valuables and layers so you can have your arms free. How’s that for service!?

During Blue Coaching sessions I facilitate a space for you to reflect, make decisions and plan for your future by asking you questions and helping you see different perspectives. We work with what you bring to the sessions and I’ll encourage you to tap into your own wisdom. A coaching client is usually working towards a specific life or work goal.
During Wellbeing Walks, we have coaching-style conversations which means I’ll ask you questions that help you reflect but our sessions are more about the here and now, focusing on our bodymind connection. The sessions are practical and active, and include a range of activities that are centred around wellbeing.
